Message from Chip O'Rear, Certification Chair

New in 2008, CSI has instituted computer based testing for CDT exams nationwide, rather than traditional paper and pencil exams held the last Saturday in March. There will be two opportunities in 2008 for CDT exam testing; March 31 – April 5, 2008 and September 22-27, 2008 at 400+ Thompson Prometric testing centers nationwide.

The Atlanta Chapter has always offered a 10 week study course for the CDT exam meeting the 10 Monday evenings approaching the national exam day ($100.00). This year, SpecGuy.com (in independent entity with well known and respected training material for exam preparation) is offering a CDT study course on-line, Monday nights starting January 7, 2008 ($150.00). While our Chapter prefers to hold local study courses on Monday nights, to give the opportunity for candidates to take the SpecGuy course as well as or in addition to our course, our sessions will be offered on Tuesday nights. Contact Chip O’Rear for registering for our Atlanta Chapter study course offered every Tuesday evening from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM at the Earthlink Building, 1375 Peachtree Street (across from Perkins+Will) starting Tuesday, January 22, 2008.

Advanced certification exams for CCS, CCCA and CCPR will be offered paper and pencil style (as usual) locally at BSD SoftLink at Piedmont Center, Piedmont Rd. on Saturday, April 5, 2008. If you are considering an advanced certification, please contact Chip O’Rear. Every effort will be made to offer Chapter sponsored study preparation assistance for these exams. SpecGuy offers a study course for CCCA as well as CDT.

Go to csinet.org/certification for all exam registration applications and to order the PRM, MasterFormat 04 and various other required study materials. After reviewing the csinet.org web site, if you have any further questions, please contact Chip O’Rear.

CSI Atlanta Chapter
Certification Exam & Study Course
Information

The Atlanta Chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) is now accepting registrations for its FY 2008 CDT/CCS/CCCA/CCPR Certification Exam Study Courses. These classes are taught by certified professionals and are essential for those who wish to further their professional development within the construction industry through continuing education. Courses are designed to assist CSI Certification candidates in reviewing the examination source materials which include the CSI Project Resource Manual “PRM”, AIA and EJCDC documents and Masterformat 2004.

Through education and examination, CSI certification identifies those individuals who have established themselves as skilled and knowledgeable professionals within the construction community.
What are the certifications?

The CDT (Construction Documents Technologist) study course covers the construction process, contractual relationships, and the use of construction documents. It is the first step in CSI certification and a prerequisite to the advanced certifications (CCS, CCCA & CCPR). The CCS (Certified Construction Specifier) study course covers contractual relationships, document organization, and document preparation. The CCCA (Certified Construction Contract Administrator) study course covers construction contract administration, preconstruction activities and procedures, construction phase activities, and the project closeout process. The CCPR (Certified Construction Product Representative) study course covers the construction process, construction product representation, and the preparation and use of construction documents.

CSI certification offers practitioners a competitive advantage with professional credentials and industry recognition. Gain the respect; gain the knowledge; make the commitment.

Independent study courses such that our Chapter offers are suggested as a source of preparation for the CSI Certification Program exams.

These study courses are pre-registered with AIA Continuing Education System, including examination time, for receiving a total of 20 Learning Units, and qualify for HSW credit! You do not have to take the exam to earn the Learning Units from our study course.

CDT- Register directly with CSI (csinet.org) for the March 31, -April 5, 2008 computer based exam week offered at 400+ Thompson Prometric locations, nationwide.

CCS, CCCA, CCPR- Register directly with CSI (csinet.org) for the exam, which will remain a paper and pencil exam for the time, held Saturday, April 5, 2008 at the BSD SoftLink office at Piedmont Center, Piedmont Rd.
