Biography

John Gilman
Vice President, Business Recruitment | Metro Atlanta Chamber
Named vice president of business recruitment for the Metro Atlanta Chamber in
2004, John Gilman manages a business recruitment staff of three and markets the
28-county metropolitan Atlanta across the world to attract new jobs and headquarters in
global commerce, technology and logistics.
Gilman spends significant time interacting with business leaders, state and local
government officials, local chambers of commerce and development authorities. He has
served in the economic development field at the Chamber since 1981.
Over the past seven years, the Chamber has been involved in recruiting more than 250
companies to the region, including headquarters of companies such as GE Energy, Russell
Corporation, Merial Pharmaceuticals, Newell Rubbermaid, Manhattan Associates, Novelis,
Arby’s and many others.
Prior to coming to the Chamber, Gilman was the executive director for the Private
Industry Council of Atlanta for three years. There he managed a staff of eight in the
design and implementation of a city’s first Private Sector Initiative Program, where he
directed adult training and youth employment programs and was responsible for a budget
of approximately $2 million.
Gilman currently serves on the boards of the Georgia Quick Start Industry Services
Advisory Committee and the Workforce Development Agency for the city of Atlanta –
appointed by Mayor Franklin in 2002. He is also a member of the Georgia Economic
Developers Association (GEDA) and the National Association of Industrial and Office
Parks (NAIOP).
Gilman has a bachelor of arts degree in pre-law and political science from Michigan State
University and a master’s in education degree from the University of Georgia.
