Description: The objective of this course is to provide design professionals with a thorough understanding of the available motorized acoustically rated movable partitions used in interior applications.

Learning Objectives: 1) To understand the importance of flexible space division 2) Learn about the types of electrically powered partitions 3) To understand the acoustical performance properties, options available and how to best enhance performance 4) To understand the structural considerations important in regard to these dynamic systems 5) Learn about the cost comparisons and cost considerations for the various types of motorized acoustical partitions.

How Taught: The CES facilitator determines in advance the specific learning objectives and the experience level of the audience. Using a PowerPoint presentation, the facilitator discusses the issues of interest and concern to the participants by showing relevant portions of the program. Feedback will be obtained by asking questions and posing situations to the group.

At the end of the presentation, there may be an informal test after the program.

Participants will receive reference handouts.

This month, we are highlighting the MasterFormat Divisions

09 - Finishes and 10 - Specialties

All suppliers, product manufacturers and service providers are invited to exhibit at the dinner program devoted to their division topic. This is a first come, first serve event with only 10 table tops (3’X 8’) available at each monthly dinner meeting. If you are not available for your meeting night, you can reserve a table top for one of the other nights. Exhibitors will have an opportunity to present to the dinner group. (3 minutes max). All will be recognized with electronic and print media at the meetings and the June 2012 Awards Banquet. Cost $125 Members / $200 Non-Members.

Note: Non-members must also register for the dinner program and can do so at the botttom of the registration page. The cost for dinner is $30.00. Please make sure you check the appropriate box on the form so the registration is complete. We encourage you to consider becoming a CSI Atlanta member and can do so at CSI Institute Online Membership. About the ADA and Our Office

The ADA

The Americans with Disabilities Act, or ADA, provides comprehensive civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities in the areas of employment, public accommodations, state and local government services and telecommunications.

Title II of the ADA calls on state and local governments to ensure that qualified individuals with physical and mental disabilities are afforded equal opportunity to participate in those programs, services and activities offered by state and local governments.

Our Office

Serves as a technical resource to State agencies for the ADA's Title II general nondiscrimination requirements, program accessibility, communications and employment (including the reasonable accommodation process);
Operates the statewide ADA facility improvements program;
Assists State agencies in updating, strengthening and enhancing the scope of self-evaluation and transition plans to ensure compliance with the ADA mandate;
Conducts general and customized training on ADA topics for State agencies;
Provides informal technical assistance about the ADA to the general public, collaborates with local ADA support systems; and
Increases the visibility of the ADA to help more citizens understand the letter and the spirit of the law.

The State ADA Coordinator's Office is a section of the Georgia State Financing and Investment Commission.

Catherine Leigh Graham, MEBME - Ms. Graham has been performing ADA assessments and consultations to ensure compliance in both new construction and renovation since 1993 with her private consulting group. She teaches ADA compliance courses with respect to buildings and public rights of way to building code officials, architects, fire marshals, etc. She currently works for the University of South Carolina through a Centers for Disease Control grant and manages all ADA compliance and education activities. She has presented on ADA topics at Congressional Briefings on Disability in Washington, DC as well as nationwide for the American Public Health Association.

The Atlanta Chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) is now accepting registrations for its FY 2012 CDT/CCS/CCCA/CCPR Certification Exam Study Courses. These classes are taught by certified professionals and are essential for those who wish to further their professional development within the construction industry through continuing education. Courses are designed to assist CSI Certification candidates in reviewing the examination source materials which include the CSI Project Resource Manual “PRM”, AIA and EJCDC documents and Masterformat 2004.

Through education and examination, CSI certification identifies those individuals who have established themselves as skilled and knowledgeable professionals within the construction community.

What are the certifications?

The CDT (Construction Documents Technologist) study course covers the construction process, contractual relationships, and the use of construction documents. It is the first step in CSI certification and a prerequisite to the advanced certifications (CCS, CCCA & CCPR). The CCS (Certified Construction Specifier) study course covers contractual relationships, document organization, and document preparation. The CCCA (Certified Construction Contract Administrator) study course covers construction contract administration, preconstruction activities and procedures, construction phase activities, and the project closeout process. The CCPR (Certified Construction Product Representative) study course covers the construction process, construction product representation, and the preparation and use of construction documents.
