Why was the Atlanta CSI Foundation established?
To allow Atlanta Chapter CSI to have impact on college-level education. Atlanta Chapter CSI has assisted students at local colleges in the past. Through the Foundation, the Chapter hopes to continue this influence, promoting the teaching of technical courses such as specification writing, as well as design. The Chapter also hopes to promote extracurricular activities that will increase the student's awareness of the construction process, making that student a more valuable employee.

Why is there a strong emphasis by Atlanta CSI Foundation on education?
CSI has long promoted the concept of technical education among its members and to the construction industry. CSI's Certification programs are designed to provide continuing training for architects, engineers, contractors, material manufacturers and suppliers and contract administration personnel. Creation of the Atlanta CSI Foundation is simply an extension of this concept.

Is the Atlanta CSI Foundation a part of Atlanta Chapter CSI?
No. The Foundation is a separate corporation organized as a Georgia Nonprofit Corporation.

How does Atlanta CSI Foundation relate to Atlanta Chapter CSI?
As a separate corporation, Atlanta CSI Foundation has no day-to-day responsibility to Atlanta Chapter CSI. As a practical manner, the Foundation will work with the Chapter to increase its impact on educational programs both on the college level and on a continuing education basis. Atlanta Chapter CSI is dedicated to continued fund raising efforts to support Atlanta CSI Foundation, as indicated by its own substantial contributions to the Foundation.

How is the Foundation organized?
There are six directors of the Foundation. It is their responsibility to solicit contributions, make investments, give grants and administer the workings of the corporation. The directors do not receive compensation from the corporation.

Do all Atlanta CSI Foundation directors have to be members of the Atlanta Chapter CSI?
The Foundation's bylaws allow it to have directors who are not members of the Atlanta Chapter CSI. We believe that this will be the case in the future. At present, all directors are members of the Atlanta Chapter.

Which schools will benefit from the Foundation's scholarships?
Scholarships were initially awarded at Georgia Tech and Southern Polytech, and later expanded to Georgia students in colleges inside and outside the state who were studying for a construction industry degree.

Who can qualify for scholarships?
Scholarships will be awarded based on information from the student's application and recommendation from faculty advisors.

Are my contributions tax deductible?
The Foundation has 501, (c), (3) status with the Internal Revenue Service. Contributions may be 100% tax deductible.

What will my contribution be used for?
Contributions made to Atlanta CSI Foundation will be used both to award scholarships and as investment seed money to establish the Foundation and insure its existence. Atlanta CSI Foundation has no employees, nor do Directors receive any compensation.

How do I know that my contribution will be used only for purposes described?
That is one of the reasons for establishing a separate corporation. Under IRS guidelines, the Chapter does not have access to Foundation funds. Funds can only be used for purposes stated in the Foundation's bylaws.

What happens to my contribution should the Foundation cease to exist?
The Foundation has been established under IRS guidelines and bylaws to provide that, should this unlikely event occur, monies would be transferred to another nonprofit organization having similar goals.
